Larne Town Park & Chaine Park

Location: Glenarm Road, Larne, County Antrim, BT40 1DY

The sea plays an important role in defining the identify and character of both the Town Park and the Chaine parkland areas and these sites are linked via walkways. There is parking available in between Town Park and Chaine Park beside the open plan basketball court. You can access the car park from the Old Glenarm Road towards the Coast.

Chaine Park is 1.28 hectares and was named in honour of James Chaine, who developed the sea route to Scotland and who contributed much to the development of Larne Harbour. It overlooks the North Channel and is an attractive spot from which to admire the magnificent views towards Scotland. It includes a historical burying place for the Chaine family, a picnic spot and shrubbery with stunning views out across the Irish sea, shelters, ornamental shrub planting, a flowing stream to a small boating pond and a basketball court. There are a number of seats to sit and soak up the stunning scenery along with a beautiful seated shelter which is a striking feature against the sea backdrop. From the top of Chaine Park you can walk down toward Larne Promenade and Larne’s Jurrassic Coast, Waterloo Bay.

The Town Park consists of 8.3 hectares and contains 3 tennis courts, a 5-aside soccer pitch, children’s playground, public toilets, shelters, bandstand, mature trees and tree lined walks, woodland, ornamental shrubs, private allotments, flower bedding and large flat areas of open grass for ball games and play.

The children’s playground located in the Town Park has a planetary and out of this world feel and is aimed at slightly older children. This Park has a huge expanse to explore and something suitable for everyone. It’s a great vantage point to look down over the Larne Promenade down the Pedestrian link known as ‘The Snake Path’ with views across to Scotland and Larne Harbour and the iconic Chaine Memorial Tower. You can easily walk from the Town Park down to the Larne Leisure Centre and Sandy Bay.
