Larne Standing Stone

Standing stones, or ‘menhirs’ are large upright structures erected in the past. It is largely believed that their purpose has some type of religious significance to those who placed them.

Location: 32 Mullaghsandall Road, Larne, BT40 2LY

Whilst this standing stone is located on private property and only viewable from the fenceline, it’s an important part of Larne history and deserves a mention here.

Standing stones, or ‘menhirs’ are large upright structures erected in the past. It is largely believed that their purpose has some type of religious significance to those who placed them, with many artefacts discovered nearby standing stones over the years along with bones and cremation burials.

The easiest way to reach this site is via Kilwaughter or Millbrook, locations just outside Larne. The site is also accessible by going the Antrim Hills Way (a walking trail).
